One of the biggest trends right now in the world of foundations are serum foundations.

At first glance, serum foundations may look just like a really watery foundation. However, that’s not the case — think of them as a very lightweight yet full coverage make-up. In fact, many serum foundations on the market today are so pigmented you only need a drop or two to cover your whole face. And because they are so fluid, it’s easy to build up coverage without getting any sort of cakey look — the finish of serum foundations are unbelievably natural.

Today’s serum foundations may be the answer for those looking for a polished look, but don’t want to look like they’re wearing make-up. And there’s literally a serum foundation available at every price point. Let’s take a look at some of the serum foundations out there right now, from budget-friendly to splurge-worthy.

Another serum foundation available at drugstores is Physician’s Formula Cosmeceutical Youth-Boosting Spotless Foundation. Reportedly a tone-correcting mineral foundation and brightening serum in one, bareMinerals’ bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation offers a natural finish with adjustable coverage for all skin types. Made without silicone, parabens or fragrance, this foundation comes in 20 shades and features non-chemical broad spectrum SPF 20.

Diorskin Nude Air Serum ($53)

Available in eight shades from ivory to mocha, Dior’s Diorskin Nude Air Serum goes on ultra-light and dries to a weightless, velvety finish that feels just like natural skin. This is due in part to Dior’s Oxygen Activ technology, which is a combination of hyper-oxygenated oil, minerals and vitamins. The foundation is packaged in a lux glass bottle with a dropper — the foundation can be applied with fingertips or a brush.

Giorgio Armani Maestro Foundation ($64)

One of the first serum foundations to hit the market was Armani’s Maestro Foundation. According to Armani’s website, this foundation was inspired by super organza, known as the thinnest fabric in the world. Available in 17 shades, the foundation is an “ultra-fine oil-pigment suspension” that can hide flaws without any noticeable buildup.
